A parliamentary committee in Pakistan on Wednesday approved the elevation of High court judge Ayesha Malik to the rank of a supreme court judge. With this the conservative Muslim- majority country went a step further towards the appointment of the first woman judge to its top court.
Justice Malik name supported
Justice Malik currently serving as a judge of the Lahore High court was earlier this month referred by the Pakistan Judicial Commission (JCP) headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed to a parliamentary committee on appointment of judges. A bipartisan parliamentary committee headed by Pakistan peoples party senator Farooq H Naik endorsed justice Malikk's name in its meeting in Islamabad clearing the last major hurdle in his promotion to the top court.

Justice Malik, currently serving as a judge of the Lahore High Court, was earlier this month referred by the Pakistan Judicial Commission (JCP) headed by Chief justice Gulzaar Ahmed to a parliamentary committee on the parliamentary committee on appointment of judges.
