Sensex opens 486 points higher, Nifty close to 16,200, as Infosys and Tech Mahindra post significant
Mumbai: Market benchmark indices opened Monday's trading on a strong note, with the Sensex rising 485.98 points on rising global equity trends and IT share buying. The benchmark 30-share BSE index was up 485.98 points at 54,246.76. Early trading saw the broad NSE Nifty rise 126 points to 16,175.20.
The top gainers among Sensex's component companies were Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, Sun Pharma, IndusInd Bank, Wipro, Tata Steel, and UltraTech Cement. The last-place finishers were HDFC Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, and HDFC.
In Asia, trading was noticeably higher in Seoul, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. On Friday, the US stock markets ended significantly higher.
In the meantime, the benchmark Brent crude price rose globally by 0.72 percent to USD 101.89 per barrel. On Friday, the Nifty increased 110.55 points or 0.69 percent to 16,049.20, while the BSE barometer increased 344.63 points or 0.65 percent to close at 53,760.78.
According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors entered the selling mode on Friday, offloading shares worth Rs 1,649.36 crore in the capital market.
