Updated: Jul 19

Before the upcoming season, Chennaiyin FC confirmed the acquisition of Senegalese defender Fallou Diagne, albeit no specifics regarding the length of the contract were provided. Diagne's most recent assignment was with the Albanian team KF Vllaznia, where he played for Thomas Brdaric, the new manager of Chennaiyin. In 2021/22, he won the Albanian Cup.

Vita Dani, a co-owner of Chennaiyin FC, commented on the club's first new foreign acquisition this season: "We are happy to welcome Fallou Diagne as our first new foreign signing ahead of the forthcoming season. Adding a player who the coach has already worked with is always a good idea. His first-tier league playing experience in Germany and France will be a huge asset to our young team.

Diagne made his Metz debut in 2009 at the age of 19, and he went on to make 99 appearances, including a loan season in 2017–18. Between 2014 and 2016, he made 37 games with Stade Rennais FC, giving him a total of 78 Ligue 1 outings.

Between 2011 and 2014, the Senegalese international made 65 appearances for SC Freiburg, including 57 Bundesliga games and three Europa League outings. The 6'1 center defender has tallied 16 goals so far in his career.

"Diagne is an extremely seasoned player who ought to anchor and direct the defense. He exudes composure while in charge and is a perfect example of discipline and diligence. He will fit in well and contribute significantly to the team. Regarding the club's newest member, Brdaric stated.

The defender has three caps for Senegal, the defending AFCON winners, including one against Namibia in a qualifier where he teamed up with Kalidou Koulibaly and Sadio Mane.

Diagne declared, "I am excited because this is my first trip to India," before beginning his first assignment there. I am overjoyed to be a part of Chennaiyin FC and I hope to contribute in some way so that the team and I can continue to win championships.
