Amit Rohidas, Krishan Pathak, Surender Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh, and PR Sreejesh are among the 31 players who have been invited to the Commonwealth Games camp, which started on Monday and will end on July 23 when the squad departs for Birmingham for the quadrennial event.
Following their impressive performance in Europe, where they competed in thrilling FIH Pro League doubleheaders against Belgium and the Netherlands, the men's team will hold a nearly four-week national camp at the Sports Authority of India facility in Bengaluru, where they will make their final preparations for the mega event.
India's campaign is set to get underway on July 31 against Ghana under the direction of Manpreet Singh. In the round-robin league games, hosts England, Canada, and Wales will compete against India, which is grouped in Pool B.
The players received a brief six-day holiday following the FIH Pro League matches in Europe to spend time with their families, according to head coach Graham Reid. I think the break has given the players more energy when they return, both physically and emotionally.
"Over the next three weeks, we'll concentrate on enhancing our performance in the FIH Pro League, where we had the chance to compete against some of the greatest teams in the world. I've identified a few places where we can improve and be more consistent. We will work on this in the future weeks while we are in Bengaluru. We will undoubtedly compete for a strong performance in Birmingham because the Commonwealth Games is a major tournament with world ranking points on the line," stated Reid.
The list of campers includes PR Sreejesh, Pawan, Surender Kumar, Harmanpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Amit Rohidas, Jugraj Singh, Jarmanpreet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Hardik Singh, Shamsher Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Akashdeep Singh, Nilakanta Sharma, Gurjant Singh, Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Lalit Kumar
