He is far more capable than that. The kind of positions he comes in," Parthiv said harshly of Team I
Following the star player's uneven performances over the past month, the former India wicketkeeper-batter made a harsh comment about him.
In the third T20I of the series against the West Indies, Team India put on a strong showing, defeating the hosts in Basseterre by seven wickets. India successfully chased down a 165-run target with an extra over thanks in large part to the excellent opening performance of Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed a fantastic 76 off just 44 deliveries. Even though the visitors had a convincing victory, Shreyas Iyer, an Indian batsman in the middle order, had been struggling lately.
Iyer had a very difficult time Tuesday, hitting 24 runs off of 27 deliveries in the third ODI, significantly slowing the tempo of scoring. Parthiv Patel, a former India wicketkeeper-batter, argued that Iyer's prolonged problems in the game's shortest format are a cause for concern for the team management even though Suryakumar's offensive brilliance rescued the day for India.
Iyer has scores of 0*, 28, 0, 10, and 24 in his last five T20Is. Additionally, he last reached fifty in this format against Sri Lanka in February of this year. Iyer scored 50 or more runs in each of the series' three games, but he hasn't done it in the nine innings since.
"He had the best opportunity today to regain his form and get some runs. Compared to the position he is entering to play the short balls, he is a lot superior player. You are not need to move from your stumps to take those shots. He plays the game considerably better than that. Parthiv advised him to try playing on the ground on Cricbuzz.
"Take a look at these strike rates following the IPL. Strike rate of 110, average of 19, so it is clear that he is having trouble. He further remarked, "He had the chance today.
On August 6 in Florida, Team India will make a comeback for the fourth T20I of the series. The visitors would win the series with a victory in this game.
