Noem joined a state agency directly soon after it decided to reject her daughter's application for a real estate appraiser's license in 2020, according to an earlier story from the AP.
Sioux Falls, South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem may have "engaged in misconduct" when she interfered with her daughter's application for a real estate appraiser license, a South Dakota ethics board said on Monday. The board also referred a separate complaint about her use of the state airplane to the attorney general of the state for investigation.
The three retired judges on the Government Accountability Board determined that “appropriate action” could be taken against Noem for her role in her daughter’s appraiser licensure, though it didn’t specify the action.
The board's actions could hurt the Noem investigations. The Republican governor is up for reelection this year and has declared her candidacy for president in 2024. She is being investigated by the board as a result of charges made by Jason Ravnsborg, the state's former Republican attorney general, resulting from media coverage of Noem's activities while in office. She has denied doing anything improper.
