Manchester united news | New Boss Erik Ten Hag Given Baptism of Fire to Manchester United's Reality

Erik ten Hag expressed amazement at the 4-0 loss at Brentford that sent Manchester United to the bottom of the Premier League for the first time in 30 years.

But the Dutchman is getting a crash education in United's new reality after just two games in charge.

For the first time since 1936, the 20-time English champions have now dropped seven straight league games on the road.

Similar thrashings occurred throughout that run at Manchester City, Liverpool, and Brighton. In fact, since the start of the previous campaign, United has given up four or more goals seven times in the Premier League.

The same shortcomings on and off the field that have endured during a decade of decline at Old Trafford have destroyed any chance of a new dawn under the former Ajax manager.

After struggling to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, Ten Hag's predecessor Ralf Rangnick declared that the United team needed "open heart surgery" and up to 10 new players as he ended his disastrous caretaker tenure.

Only three new players have entered the season's first two games: Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martinez.
