Due to Dominic Calvert-injury, Lewin's Everton will not have a striker for Chelsea's opening match.

Salomon Rondon is suspended for the game after receiving a red card against Brentford last season, while the Merseyside club recently transferred Brazilian Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur, leaving Lampard without much firepower up front.

According to manager Frank Lampard, Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton will be sidelined for up to six weeks due to a knee issue, leaving them without a senior attacker for their home Premier League opener against Chelsea on Saturday.

At a press conference, Lampard said, "Losing a guy like Dominic, with his quality, in the week leading up to the first game is going to affect you."

"I believe the injuries will likely require healing for six weeks or so. Although he has been evaluated over a few days, and despite the insane affectrumors, I heard yesterday, that is where we are at.

It is inevitable while working with a squad and receiving this degree of training. We'll have to find a solution to that. It will be up to other players to stand up and fill in, and hopefully, the six weeks fly by quickly enough for Dominic to return.

Calvert-Lewin, who scored five goals in 18 appearances during a season marred by injuries in 2021–22, had a new difficulty, according to Lampard.

"Dominic had a fantastic physique and was strong. We frequently remarked on how fantastic he looks throughout the preseason, although I did withdraw him from one preseason game out of caution. It was quite encouraging," Lampard added.

"So, it's a knock for everyone, especially for him, because I understand how it feels to be a player just getting revved up for a new season.

I feel bad for him, but we will support him. After that, as a team and a squad, we must focus on the games that are ahead of us.

Last season, Everton was involved in a relegation fight but managed to finish 16th with 39 points from 38 games.
