Don't expect Ashwin to compete in the T20 World Cup. A former player makes a bold forecast for India
On Friday, Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik had an uninterrupted 52-run seventh-wicket stand until Ashwin took two wickets in his final four overs.

In the opening Twenty20 of the five-match series on Friday, India outwitted West Indies by 68 runs thanks to a precise bowling performance by the spin combo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi. With his knowledge and cunning, Ashwin took two wickets in Trinidad against a batting lineup that found it difficult to gain any form of momentum while pursuing 191.
Ashwin, a Test cricket player with a track record of success, made a comeback to the Twenty20 format after an absence of eight months since his last appearance against New Zealand in November 2021. The seasoned tweaker, who received an unexpected call-up before the T20 World Cup last year, is back in the running. But does he go to Australia eventually? Parthiv Patel, a former wicketkeeper for India, believes Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are better possibilities for India's "attacking" lineup, making Ashwin unlikely to be selected for the championship match.
"In the upcoming game, I envision Bishnoi playing ahead of Ashwin" (if India decides to go with two spinners). To be honest, I don't see Ashwin participating in the T20 World Cup. In Kuldeep Yadav, Bishnoi, and (Yuzvendra) Chahal, I would want variety. Wrist spinners provide that interstitial attacking alternative. That's not what Ashwin gives you, Parthiv said to Cricbuzz.
He ensured that the spinners bowled at various intervals. At the very end, Ravi Bishnoi bowled four consecutive overs. The first six overs were delivered by Ashwin and Jadeja. Jadeja does not typically bowl with the new ball; Ashwin does. But because of two right-handed matchups, we got to see Jadeja bowl. Parthiv continued, "Rohit was at the peak of his game.
India, which had won all three games of a one-day international series, opted to bat first and put up a respectable 190-6 total. West Indies responded with a 122-8 victory. With 20 off 15, Shamarh Brooks led the club in scoring.
A third match will take place at the same location on Tuesday after the second game on Monday in Basseterre, St. Kitts, and Nevis. The final two Twenty20 games will take place at Florida's Lauderhill.
