CWG 2022, Judo: Tulika Maan Enters Women's 78kg Final After Win Over New Zealand's Sydnee Andrews

Tulika Maan of India secured her spot in the women's 78 kg final on Wednesday, guaranteeing her gold at the Commonwealth Games.

The 22-year-old, a four-time national champion, fell behind early in the competition but quickly defeated Sydnee Andrews of New Zealand by doing an "Ippon" in the semifinal round.

Later tonight, Sarah Adlington of Scotland will compete in the final in place of Tulika.

In the men's 100 kg Repechage competition, Tevita Takawaya of Fiji defeated the sole another Indian competitor, Deepak Deswal.

This is India's third Judo medal at the main competition. On Monday, L Sushila Devi and Vijay Kumar won silver and bronze in the women's 48 kg and men's 60 kg events, respectively.

It should be mentioned that the Sports Authority of India formed an expert committee to evaluate the trials and the selection process for the CWG and to recommend any required adjustments following the de-recognition of the Judo Federation of India on April 22.

Olympic judokas Carwash Billimoria, Sandeep Byala, and Sunith Thakur, as well as Judo gurus Arun Dwivedi and Yogesh K. Dhadve, served on the committee.
