Business | The new National Lottery operator wants to boost donations to charities.

The National Lottery's new operator has stated that it intends to more than increase the amount of money given to charitable organizations.

The lottery will be officially operated by Allwyn Entertainment beginning in February 2024.

It follows the dismissal of a legal challenge by Camelot, which managed the lottery for 30 years and was obstructing the transfer of the £6.4 billion contract.

The Gambling Commission said it can now "commence the transaction".

Allwyn's chairman, Justin King, stated: "Today's award formally ushers in a new era for the National Lottery.

We have ambitious plans for this significant and beloved institution, including, crucially, increasing donations to charitable organizations around the nation, enhancing the player experience with cutting-edge technology, and assuring participant safety.

Camelot filed a lawsuit in April after being denied the next license, stating that the Gambling Commission made a "badly incorrect" judgment. According to the commission, the competition was "fair and robust."

The transfer of the license was automatically halted as a result of the legal action, but the commission announced that this block has been removed.

"We are thrilled to have officially awarded the fourth license to Allwyn following a highly successful competition and the court's decision to lift the suspension on the award process," said Andrew Rhodes, chief executive officer of the Gambling Commission.

Sazka was the previous name for Allwyn Entertainment. Karel Komarek, an oil and gas entrepreneur from the Czech Republic, owns the lottery operator. Greece, the Czech Republic, and Austria all have lotteries managed by Allwyn.

The National Lottery, one of the biggest lotteries in the world, has donated more than £46 billion to charitable organizations in the UK.

Over the past three decades, it has also contributed to the funding of facilities and training for Great Britain's Olympic and Paralympic competitors.
