Born to run | Breaking with O'Rourke in 2020, Klobuchar declares, "I wasn't born to run"

Amy Klobuchar, a senator from Minnesota, stated on Saturday that she "wasn't born to run" for president, in stark contrast to Beto O'Rourke, another Democratic candidate.

"I think it was higher when I started college. One of the five female lawmakers running for the 2020 Democratic nomination, Amy Klobuchar, told host Chuck Todd that when she was growing up and in high school, it wasn't what females believed they would do in an interview that will appear on Sunday on NBC News's "Meet the Press."

"I believe my parents considered it a possibility. But I didn't. So for me, it's something that's developed through time as I've been more aware of my abilities," said Klobuchar. "I can be chosen to serve as my high school class secretary and treasurer. I can continue after that. Therefore, I believe that I was not born with it.

Since an interview with Vanity Fair that was released on the eve of O'Rourke's announcement of his presidential campaign on Thursday, the reasons for his impending campaign have drawn criticism. According to the former Texas congressman, he was "born to be in" the 2020 race.

He stated in the cover story, "I want to be in it. Man, I was just born into it, and I want to do everything in my power for this nation right now.

These comments, along with those he made last week on his parenting style, have come under fire in recent days as being representative of historical double standards in presidential politics and white male privilege.

Klobuchar said on Saturday that she respects Beto a lot and that it's "wonderful to have some Texas in" the Democratic race despite claims of staff harassment that some have rejected as sexist. Julián Castro, a former mayor of San Antonio and secretary of housing and urban development in the Obama administration, is also vying for the presidency.

But no, Klobuchar added, "I wasn't born to run for politics, just because when I was growing up in the middle of the nation in the 1970s, I don't believe many people thought a girl could be president. Running was not in my DNA. But I'm moving quickly.
