Ankita Raina receives a wildcard entry into the women's singles draw at the Chennai Open.

Ankita Raina, the top-ranked female tennis player in India, received a wild card entry on Tuesday for the upcoming Chennai Open, which will take place here from September 12 to 18.

Eugenie Bouchard of Canada, who placed third at Wimbledon in 2014, will compete in the WTA 250 competition with the 29-year-old.

Eugenie Bouchard and Ankita Raina have been handed wild cards for the 32-player singles main draw. At a press conference here, TNTA President and former Indian tennis player Vijay Amritraj said that the two additional (wildcards) will be offered to anyone in the top-20 willing to travel and compete here.

It would have been difficult for Sania to travel back to India for the Chennai Open and then return, Amritraj said. "I had a long talk with Sania during Wimbledon where she had mentioned that she was going to participate at the US Open and also had a strong chance of making it to the WTA Finals," he added.

The US Open does not appear to be in the cards for her now that she is injured, so we will have to wait and see whether she will be able to play with us.
