Cell phone | A Trump ally claims the FBI grabbed a mobile phone.

According to reports, the investigation into the former president's attempts to rig the 2020 election includes the seizure.

Amiddid does not attempt an inquiry into the 2020 presidential election, Representative Scott Perry (R-Pennsylvania) revealed that US Federal investigators had taken his cell phone. He blasted the government for using "banana republic techniques."

In a statement released on Tuesday, Perry said that "3 FBI officers visited me and grabbed my cell phone" while he was on a family vacation.

I'm horrified - though not surprised - that the FBI, working under Merrick Garland's DOJ, would take the phone of a sitting Member of Congress, Perry said. "They made no attempt to contact my counsel, who would have made arrangements for them to have my phone if that was their intention."

Soon after raiding Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, the FBI executed a search warrant against Perry, allegedly as part of an investigation into Trump's handling of presidential materials, including secret data, which may have been taken to the Palm Beach site.

Former senior Justice Department officials testified that Perry played "an important role" in attempts to appoint Trump ally Jeffrey Clark as acting attorney general soon after the 2020 election, in the hope that he would support the then-claims presidents of widespread election fraud. It is still unclear whether the two investigations are connected, and the FBI has not provided a reason for the search warrant.

Perry's phone was "imaged" by federal investigators, per a source cited by CNN, and given back to him later that day with a warning that a second warrant would be required to access the device's data.

Nevertheless, the legislator blasted the FBI for using "banana republic techniques" and an "unnecessary and harsh action," mirroring Republican talking points following the Mar-a-Lago raid on Monday.

He claimed, "My phone has information regarding my political and legislative activity, as well as personal/private conversations with my wife, family, constituents, and friends." Nothing about this is the government's concern.
