Steve Bannon asserts that searches targeting 35 people took place the same day he was accused of fraud.
A former close aide to former US President Donald Trump has said that the FBI carried out raids this week that were intended to target scores of his followers.
Steve Bannon, who is currently facing fraud charges, has compared the group to Adolf Hitler's infamous secret police.
On Friday, Bannon stated: "There were 35 FBI raids yesterday" targeting "senior members of MAGA, Republican supporters of Donald Trump." Bannon was speaking on the conservative Charlie Kirk Show. Since "these people have lawyers," he claimed, the searches weren't really necessary. He further claimed that the "jack-booted Gestapo" purposefully created a "big spectacle of this."
The Washington establishment, according to Trump's former adviser, is using "lawfare, financial terrorism, law—you know, everything legally — and quite honestly, up to assassinations" to silence any dissenting voices.
The Biden administration is aware that "they are losing," the prominent conservative concluded, so "this is all about intimidation."
He declared: "Screw them. I'm not going to give in. I don't give a damn and spit right in their eyes.
The former Trump adviser said, "I'm breaking that news right here," when the presenter asked him to clarify that there had been 35 FBI raids and added that he had not seen this published in any media outlet.
The FBI was reportedly contacted by Newsweek magazine for comment on Bannon's claims, but no response was given.
The assertions were made by the former Trump adviser just one day after he was charged with several offenses in connection with a crowdfunding fraud scheme in which he is accused of defrauding contributors of money intended to build a wall along the border with Mexico.
Bannon was detained on Thursday morning, entered a not guilty plea to all charges, and later that day, according to reports, was freed without posting bail.
