A Chinese ship arrives in Sri Lanka amid worries in India.

Many people think the Chinese vessel "Yuan Wang-5" is a spy ship. It was permitted to enter a port in Sri Lanka last week.

According to reports, a Chinese research vessel that has been widely suspected of being a spy ship arrived at Sri Lanka's Hambantota Port on Tuesday morning amid worries in India. Yuan Wang-5 was permitted to dock at the port in Sri Lanka over the weekend. China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) uses Yuan Wang-5 to monitor satellites and ballistic missiles. Around 2,000 sailors are thought to be on board the ship.

According to a statement from Sri Lanka's foreign affairs ministry, "having evaluated all material in place, the clearance to the Embassy of the People's Republic of China was transmitted for the deferred arrival of the vessel from 16-22 August 2022" was given on August 13, 2022.

China has acquired the Hambantota Port through a debt swap and a 99-year lease. Due to its location, it is thought to be strategically significant.

The debt-ridden island nation of Sri Lanka had urged Beijing earlier this month to postpone the entry; the ship's arrival was originally scheduled for August 11. China responded angrily, saying that it was "absolutely wrong" for some nations to pressurize Colombo and "grossly intervene" in its domestic affairs by using the pretext of "security concerns." Beijing claimed that it was looking for new entrance times "for the vessel's resupply."

Arindam Bagchi, a spokeswoman for the ministry of external affairs, responded vehemently to Beijing's remark. "We reject the hints about India in the statement. Sri Lanka is a sovereign nation that exercises independent decision-making, according to Bagchi.

We have often emphasized the need for mutual respect, sensitivity, and interests as a foundation for developing relations between India and China.
